About

Almost everyone has been in a situation where they have left something undone at home before leaving on a trip, like leaving the window shades open, the front door unlocked, or not watering the plants. Often, the only solution is to leave a key with a neighbor and ask him or her to do what was forgotten. This can be an inconvenience for neighbors, especially when the needed task requires repeating.

At other times, people may indeed be home but unable to do even simple tasks. They may have locked themselves out of their home, or have a condition that prevents them from acting as they would like.

Home Automation Systems perform simple tasks and enable further security for a house. Such systems are generally expensive and perform a limited set of predefined actions. Many also require the presence of the user to activate them. An inexpensive, remotely accessible, and modular home automation system can fulfill each of the above stated needs, and allows room for further expansion and growth as the user’s needs evolve.

This Home Automation system was designed for my wife who has both Degenerative Disc Disease and Scoliosis. Each system was designed with her in mind and for easy use in future subsystems.

The concept for this system is depicted in the following figure.
